Legendary Australian 90's Rock Band DEF FX Returns with New Best Of Album "COLLECT Vol 1" available on vinyl and digital, released by Cheersquad Records and Tapes on Friday, 24th November 2023.
DEF FX, the iconic Australian rock band that took the 90s music scene by storm, is back with a bang. The band, known for their groundbreaking blend of electronic beats, samples and rock/metal instrumentation, has announced the release of a unique ‘early years best of’ album, "COLLECT Vol 1."
Formed in Sydney in 1990, DEF FX quickly gained recognition for their distinctive sound and ballistic live performances. Lead singer and songwriter, Fiona Horne carved her own rock goddess niche with her powerful stage presence and politically charged, spiritually inclined lyrics, as the band's fusion of genres drew comparisons to artists as diverse as Pink Floyd, Metallica, and The Prodigy. With their infectious energy and undeniable talent DEF FX were the hardest touring band in Australia regularly featured on festivals like Big Day Out and touring with bands like No Doubt and the Smashing Pumpkins. In the USA Def FX charted top 20 in the Billboard Dance chart with the Al Jourgenson (Ministry) remix of Space Time Disco and maintained their intrigue long after their recording career ended, with their final album in 1997, the ARIA Gold Certified, Majick.
"COLLECT Vol 1" is a compilation album that showcases the band's indie hits and fan favourites from their early EPs and albums. Curated by Fiona Horne and band historian Robert Wilmshurst, the album features 11 tracks, including songs from the Water, Surge, and Blink EPs, (which in January 1993 were all in the ARIA Alternative Top 10 at the same time) as well as 1995’s ARIA ‘Best Independent Release’ nominated, Ritual Eternal album, the Post Moronic EP and the Baptism album. As a bonus, there is a surprise extra track on the digital release.
To celebrate “COLLECT Vol 1’s” release, on 25th November, DEF FX embark on their national Australian "Never Say Never Tour" in collaboration with fellow 90's electronica legends, CALIGULA. The two bands have not toured together since 1996 and they promise to bring their authentic 90's sound and style back to the stage, to ignite all the feels and make more amazing memories. #90sforever !
DEF FX's influence on Australian music is undeniable, with their creations being studied in contemporary university music programs. Their impact continues to resonate with audiences of all ages, as everything old is new again and their sound and philosophy remains as relevant today as it was in the 90s.
"COLLECT Vol 1" will be available on vinyl through Cheersquad Records and Tapes, along with a digital release. With fat remastering of every track, fans will want to ‘turn it up and play it loud’ and experience all the slammin’ thrills and mosh pit magic of DEF FX's music better than ever.
